Semiotics
Semiotics is the study of signs and also using similar word called 'decoding'. However a signs is anything that can convey meaning for example, words, sounds, drawings, photographs, street signs and more on. For example, "coffee" is s brewed beverage, but it also evokes comfort, alertness, creativity and countless other associations.
Ferdinand De Saussure
Ferdinand de Saussure was a Swiss linguist. He was one who have idea that laid foundation for many significant development in both linguistics and semiotics. Therefore, he argued the signs which could be have two type of signs in semiotics is signifier and signified.
Signifer is the object , the word, image or action.
Signified is the concept behind the object that is being represented.
The example of these signs is given that a heart indicates the color of red that is signifier while the concept meaing a symbol of love and affection as the text is known as signified.
